Alison Kennedy, taken in the Argyll Hotel a few years ago!

Saturday, 6th November, 10 am till 4 pm.

I’ll be running a portrait workshop in the beautiful town of Inveraray in Argyll on Saturday the 6th of November. I plan to make it a very active day with some challenges and a little input on what makes good portraiture?

In the spirit of my old 100-portraits blog, the day will contain equal amounts of technical ideas and ideas for working with people. If you want to spend a day developing your skills snapping friends or other subjects then this might be for you.

There will be no charge for the event, as I am trying out the format for the first time. It is understood that if you attend, as the Argyll Hotel is supplying the premises from goodwill only that we all buy lunch there. The Argyll is a very friendly place, and anyone who wants to stay over and make a weekend of it, exploring Argyll’s landscapes will get a great deal from them. Photographic location advice for landscape enthusiasts will be available from local photographer, Richard, who works at the Argyll Hotel.

The workshop will be on a “bring your own camera and laptop with your usual editing software” basis. I can help out with a few people, but you will have to email me in advance.

Places will be limited to ensure really good interaction and learning from each other. Please email me by Friday 22nd October if you would like to join me.

Sorry I haven’t posted for a couple of days. Between being away for a conference and then rushing back to hang the portraits in “Offshore cafe’s” exhibition space there hasn’t been time. On Friday night Catherine and our dear friends Gerry and Elisabeth got stuck into the task and discovered the true scale of hanging100 12″ x 9″ images; 500 sticky pads needing cut, 100 name and description cards as well as wrestling with newly painted walls where the paint has set with a powdery finish. A big thanks to my helpers. I wen’t back yesterday and finished the job as we only managed 70 on Friday night.

Anyway, the exhibition is up, and I’m really pleased to see it coming together. If you’re near Glasgow then head to Offshore Cafe, Gibson Street in Glasgow’s west end.

No picture news today. I have posted a page for my music. I used to have a separate music site, but I don’t find time for it any more, and the spare time I have, I have diverted to photography, which I can fit in with my working life a little more easily. If you are interested in traditional music, or even in hearing a few of my own songs, then do feel free to download them; its all art I suppose. More picture stuff tomorrow.

Other news:

Panasonic have updated their firmware for the LX3. I have updated mine and it went very smoothly. Get it here.

By coincidence, Canon have updated the firmware for my other camera, the 40D. Get it here.
