Bird on a wire

_mg_90121

Today in Renfrewshire there was a lovely mist after the rain went away. There was a layered “shades of mistiness” effect that I couldn’t resist. I haven’t felt like stopping by roadsides recently due to lots of large and upsetting changes in my life, but I’m glad that the desire to do so here was too strong too resist. This picture was very much snatched, and required a square crop to make the foreground wires work as a subject, but still captures something of the frequently misty landscape around Bridge of Weir in Renfrewshire.

Ruth

Ruth was not only a lovely subject to photograph, but was also a great pianist. She brought a relaxed and fun approach to the session. I have a particularly fond memory of meeting Ruth as she insisted on giving some lovely wine and fine biscuits to say thanks; a really lovely person.

Bethan

Sorry for the posting delay. Truthfully there are up cycles and down cycles in any hobby, and I have been going through a bit of a “down-phase” recently. I thought I might start gently again with my second choice from Bethan’s shoot from my 100 portraits project last year. I didn’t do many pictures that didn’t have a full facial view, so this one was highly odd for me. It was in the botanic gardens in Glasgow.

North Berwick scenes

The above scene is just a row of houses leading to the harbour using the 70-300 to compress the scale.

Same again with these pots that were pointed out to me. “What would you do with those in a photograph” was the question? Again, 300mm lens and compress the distance between them and saturate the colours a little.

Just a pretty little boat whose owner lavishes her unstintingly with paint.

North Berwick Beach

I almost love this picture, but I’m afraid it falls short. Compositionally, the woman walking her dog is in the wrong spot. If I had pressed the shutter when she was nearer to the left and filling the empty space this would have been a stronger picture. It’s good to reflect on these things and learn from them I suppose.

Here’s a crude edit (the only kind I know how to do in Photoshop) to Illustrate my point. It looks like an edit, and I wouldn’t use it of course, but I think it looks more balanced:
